Tungenes Lighthouse

Tungenes is located at the nothern part of Jaeren, at the beginning og the approach to Stavanger. The lighthouse was established in 1828, requested from citizens and fishermen. Today, this lighthouse is open for cultural projects and museum. It is operated in co-operation with Jaermuset.

Earlier, it was just some candlelights that lead the fishermen towards Stavanger. They were fishing for herring, a big income for the town. Later is has been upgraded, and the last modernisation was in 1959. It consists of 4 buildings: The lighthouse, shed, and homes for the staff.

The staff moved away in 1984, and the light itself was replaced with an automatic light on the reef “Bragen” just outside. Today the place serves as a place for people to see how the lighthouse keeper and faily lived around 1930. The shed hold different cultura exhibitions.

Sweets in the Cafe
The area is popular for recreation. The nauture it self, and the marine trafficc outside gives a sense that there is always something going on. It is agreat place to take a stroll – with your hiking shoes.

Open
During autumn, winter and spring is it open Sundays beetween 12 – 16, and at school holidays every day between 12 – 16- Closed Desember and January. NOTE: This might have changed since time of writing!
